Acne Scar Revision
Acne scarring can be a disfiguring problem. Unfortunately acne is not limited to puberty and can occur at anytime in life, especially around pregnancy for women. Fortunately, there are cosmetic surgery treatments which can improve unsightly scars resulting from acne. The severity of the scarring will dictate the procedures available for improvement and will dictate the amount of improvement expected. For more severe scarring, several treatments over several months may be necessary to achieve optimal results.
If your acne is active, a concurrent treatment plan with a dermatologist will be necessary to ensure the best results possible. If you are currently taking Accutane, you will need to be off of it for 6 months before any facial resurfacing procedure can be undertaken.
Acne scar treatment is a complicated process and patients can expect that it may take several treatments over an extended period to obtain the best results. There is not one best acne scar treatment. The treatment undertaken depends on several factors including: skin color, type of acne scarring, expected results, available recovery time, and patient expectations.
